Suggested Hunting Gear

Hunting Equipment

  • Sleeping bag (Aug temp. From 70 F to 20 F)( Sept & Oct May be 10 F to 0 F at night) put sleeping bag into garbage bag while hunting to ensure dryness.
  • Thermarest –Full length warmer but you decide, bring repair kit
  • Boots that are waterproof-with extra laces and treated
  • Camp shoes-or if back packing something light to put on at night around the tent or to cross creeks.
  • Blister Kit or mole skin
  • Binoculars that are waterproof.
  • Lens Cloth
  • Hunting knife & Sharpener
  • Daypack –if horseback hunting or riverboat hunting
  • Backpack –Internal or external frame-with extra 2” buckle if Backpacking
  • Backpack Rain fly (for any hunt)


  • Socks ( 1pair for every 2-4 days)
  • Long underwear top & bottoms( Light for Aug) ( Mid for Sept) (heavy for Oct)
  • Underwear (1 pair for every 2-4 days)
  • 2 pair pants that dry Quickly
  • 2 Long sleeve Shirts
  • Pair of Gloves (light weight Aug, Med Sept, Warm in Oct)
  • Good Raingear ( light weight & pack able for sheep hunting) Lined for moose or horseback hunting
  • Jacket med weight wool or fleece
  • Insulated Jacket or Vest for Sept/Oct (Down or synthetic fill)
  • Travel Clothes for to and from motel can leave with hard case at Motel
  • Gaitors ( gore tex) excellent for crossing creeks and wet grass mornings.
  • Headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries
  • Quality rain gear is important. KUIU and Sitka Gear are good choices.


  • Tooth brush
  • Lip Balm with at least #10 SPF & #20 SPF Sun Block (for Aug Hunts)
  • Toilet paper for backpacking (one roll)
  • Liquid soap or Shampoo (small 2oz) with small towel or washcloth
  • Deodorant
  • Baby wipes Travel pack of 15 or so. Good to wash up with or instead of TP
  • Any prescription Medication
  • Advil or Aspirin (anti-inflammatory)
  • Band aids and medical cream

Rifle Hunters

  • 1-2 boxes of shells with 8-10 nylon or leather shell holder for waist
  • Gun with scope minimum .25 caliber preferred
  • Sling & Scope covers
  • Compact cleaning kit & cotton patches
  • Hard case for airport travel- will be left at hotel
  • Leather horseback scabbard or (soft case if backpacking for travel in on charter plane)
  • Electrical tape for end of barrel


  • Digital Camera with extra battery and card
  • 1 liter water bottle,(hard)
  • Waterproof matches and lighter
  • Bug repellant (containing deet in Aug)
  • Compass
  • Sunglasses
  • Small book to read on weather days
  • Hunting and fishing Licenses (will be given to you in Fort Nelson or Base camp) please carry on you at all times
  • Airline ticket, Passport/I.D, Firearms permit(sign at customs),
  • Trophy Fees, Royalty & Tip money (usually 6-10%) all can be US Cash, This is only a suggestion.
  • Bank/Cashier’s check or Traveler’s Checks.

Additional Information

Please limit your personal gear to 60 lbs coming into camp. We will go thru your gear if you wish before the hunt to make sure you only take what you will need. The reason for the
60lbs is the float planes can only carry so much weight and I have pre-booked flights according to number of passengers and weight and groceries that need to come into the area.
